Superman Henry Cavill stopped by The Tonight Show yesterday to promote his upcoming action flick Immortals, opening this Friday. In the brief chat with Jay Leno, Cavill revealed that he was once an extra on Russell Crowe’s movie Proof of Life. Cavill said that he had been doing school plays at the time and walked up to Crowe and asked what it was like to be an actor. Before Crowe could answer, a crowd of fans were approaching to get autographs. Two days later, Cavill received an autographed photo from Crowe with a message – “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” InSuperman, Crowe plays Cavill’s father, Jor-El.

The topic then transitioned briefly to Supe’s red underpants, or the lack thereof. As Cavill put it, “Why wear underpants when you can be more revealing?” Cavill told Jay he trained two hours a day over the course of eight months for the role. Following the commercial break, the two talked about how casting the new James Bond had indeed come down to him and Daniel Craig. Cavill also touched on Twilight saying that author Stephanie Meyer was keen on him to play Edward but when casting time came around, he was too old. Check out the two clips below with Cavill, Leno and preceding guest Ellen Barkin chiming in some one-liners.
